Overview
The library provides free literature searches by professional librarians to all staff. We undertake literature searches to support the full range of work-related and staff information needs, including:
- Patient care
- Service development
- Research
- Guideline development
- Animal Alternatives in Research
Who can request reference services?
All physicians, residents, fellow, associates and current students at Ascension Providence Hospital are eligible.
How do I request a literature search?
Fill out the appropriate form as completely as possible. For best results we encourage you to discuss your search requirements with the librarian. This can be done in person on on the phone.

If this is a patient care emergency, after submitting your request please contact the librarian directly.
I've submitted my request. What happens next?
COMPLETION TIME
- Literature searches are run on a first come first served basis and take between 3 and 5 business days.
- Emergency patient care searches are completed within 4 hours.
RECEIPT OF RESULTS
- Search results are emailed to you as a list of citations with abstracts (when available)
- Included in the list is a link to Full Text Finder, which tells you if we hold the item or not.
- If we hold the item, Full Text Finder provides a link directly to the article.
- If we do not hold the item, Full Text Finder provides a link to order the article through the Library's Interlibrary Loan Service. The link opens a request form with the article information pre-populated. Once you have filled out your information click on the submit button and the request will be emailed to the Library's department email.
